New Home for Mama Robert

$650.00 raised

A New Home for Mama Robert Mama Robert is a hard working single mother.  After her husband abandoned the family, she was left alone to care for her 6 children.  She lives in a rural area in central Kenya where jobs are scarce.  Farming is one of the few jobs available in the area, however severe drought has made many crops to fail. Her older children ran away from home to look for work or any money they could find so that they could attend school.  Shepherd's Heart has sponsored the oldest boy and adopted the family as our own.  With an $80 start up loan, Mama Robert has began a soap making business. She has been able to repay the loan and will be receiving a larger loan in order to grow the business.  This business will increase her acceptance in the community and provide a bit of income to care for her family.   Last year a strong wind blew the roof off of her home and caused damage to the structure.  We have been able to replace the iron sheet roof, however we would like your help in providing a new safe home for this precious family.   Below is a photo of the current home and a water tank that we were able to have delivered and a photo of Mama Robert and 3 of her children.  For $4500, together we can provide a 4 bedroom home with a room for a bathroom and kitchen.  We can also provide a bigger water tank, beds for the family, bedding, and a low smoke indoor stove for cooking.  We also hope to purchase solar panels so that the family can have proper lighting in the new home. We would also love to provide a cow and a few goats so that the family can have access to milk and an additional income source.   If you would like to be a part of changing the trajectory of this family's life, please prayerfully consider giving to the project.  You will receive photos and updates on the progress of the home as well as the joy that comes from knowing you made a huge impact in the life of an entire family, for the glory of God!  He restores our brokenness and we desire to be a part of that same restoration in the lives of others. Will you join us? To God be the glory.

30 by 30 Campaign We are looking for 30 people to help us raise $30K, and here's why:An estimated 250,000 children live on the streets of Kenya.  These children often have at least one living parent, however most parents do not know the whereabouts of their child. Poverty, neglect, abuse and lack of opportunities are often the cause for children to leave their homes in search of a better life.  However, they are met on the streets with a harsh reality of violence, sexual abuse, crime, drug abuse and hunger.  Every child, and every family, deserves better than this!   In Naivasha Kenya there is a family working to rescue these children from the streets, and reunite them with a family, either their own relatives or a foster home.  Strengthening families at high risk of separation is also a focus of the program.  Isaac and Pauline, along with their 2 sons, have been working with a group of former street boys and their families since 2011.  They have reunited all of the children with a family and started a community based organization. Shepherd's Heart has been partnering with Isaac and Pauline since the beginning.   The program now supports 28 children and their families by providing food, education expenses, medical care and counseling support. Isaac and Pauline have a deep desire to see the program self sustaining in the near future. So, in 2015 Isaac and Pauline began a poultry project raising hens and selling eggs.  With the help of Shepherd's Heart, the project began with 500 hens and now has grown to more than 1900 hens! the 1600 eggs produced every day provide a rich protein source for the community, income for small business owners who purchase from the project, and income to run the rehabilitation program in Naivasha.  In order to reach their goal of sustainability, the program needs 5,000 laying hens.  This number will allow the program to pay for the expenses of the program, provide a scholarship fund for children in the program and allow for future growth and expansion.  To do this, the family will need to move from their current rental house and purchase their own land.  With their own land, they can not only grow the poultry project, but also fulfill their long time goal of adopting a child.   For $30,000 we can purchase one acre of land a build a 4 bedroom house.  This will be the personal residence of Isaac and Pauline, as well as the 2 workers who will be employed by the project and also any foster children taken in by the family.   We are asking for 30 people to commit to one of three options:  Provide a one time gift of $1,000, or more Commit to a $100 recurring donation for 10 months, or Commit to finding 10 friends or family who will each give a $100 donation   If you would like to be a part of this restorative work of reconciliation in this community, click the donate button above or send a check to : Shepherd's Heart International PO BOX 5572 Cleveland, TN 37320-5572   Newest photos:     Update:  May 23,2020 Construction will begin on the house next week!  Already land has been cleared and one chicken house built on the property.  Thank you to everyone who has given to make this dream a reality!  May God bless you!

Meet my friend Dennis↑ Three years ago Dennis's family was thriving! He had stable work and some rental income, his oldest son had just begun medical school, and his wife ran a successful small buisiness selling ice cream. Suddenly Dennis came down with a debilitating mystery disease that caused him to lose his ability to walk or stand. He could hardly even hold up his head unassisted. The family quickly drained their savings to find treatments for Dennis but with little success.  Their children had come home from school to try to help take care of their father.  The family was sinking fast.  Last year Deniis finally received a diagnosis but it was not what they hoped.  Dennis has ALS, an incurable degenerative disease. The family must now find a way to support their children as well as pay for medical care for Dennis.  We have provided the family with an emergency food supply and their children are now back in school.  We have also provided a full time caregiver to come and help Dennis with everyday life so that his wife can return to work.   With your help, we can help Dennis and his family by investing in his wife's ice cream business.  We hope to provide her with a start up inventory, cooling containers and rent for a market stall.  This business will allow the family to begin rebuilding their lives.  The business will also be a fertile training ground for their children to learn about how to run a successful business.

"Don't forget the boys"

Kenya is currently experiencing a financial crisis partly due to the global pandemic.  Families that once worked to support their families are finding it harder and harder to find jobs.  Hardworking families are now finding it difficult to provide for anything other than basic food and housing.   Shepherd's Heart began a campaign last month to provide sanitary supplies to needy girls at a local school in Kenya.  The school was thrilled to hear of our program, however they asked us to please not forget the boys!  They told us that so many programs around the country focus on the plight of  girls and very few take notice of the hardships of boys.  The young men at this school are increasingly coming to class without proper clothing.  Their uniforms are tattered, no proper undergarments, and missing or torn footwear.  The effect of not being clothed properly isn't just embarrassment, there is an element of shame involved that causes the students to underperform in their studies.   We would like to begin a similar program for the boys as we have already started for the girls.   With your help, we can provide proper underclothing and school uniforms for the 450 boys at this school.  This program will allow us one hour per month to mentor the boys, bringing  in local experts and counseling the boys as needed.   Will you sponsor one boy?  For $45, we will be able to provide proper footwear and undergarments, and mentoring  for one boy for an entire year!

Meet Susan, a widow and mother of four, who lives in central Kenya.  She is a hardworking and humble woman who would do anything to care for her family.  Lack of rain and the pandemic caused her last two businesses to fail and she was left with nothing.  In March of 2021, she finally found employment with a family to tend to their farm and the cows in the outskirts of her city. She had to leave her children to be at the farm because she couldn’t afford the daily transport.  Her oldest daughter, who is forced to stay home and care for her siblings, performed very well in high school and would love to attend college.   Susan earns the equivalent of $70 per month.  Her rent is $30 and the remainder is all she has to pay for food and supplies for her 4 children.  She has no money left to pay for her children's education and their home is much too small for a large family.   We would love to help Susan find employment closer to her home so that she can be with her children every night and free up her eldest daughter to attend college.  Her desire is to run a small shop selling food and supplies near her home.  Well stocked shops are much needed for people who cannot afford the transport to the larger store in town.   In order to get her started we will need around $1500.  This will provide a few months of shop rent and her initial stock of goods.  After this, she will be able to use her earnings to grow her business and support her family.  We would also like to pay for her rent for a few months while her business gets off the ground as well as send her daughter to college.  What greater gift could you give a mother than the ability to raise and care for her children.  Will you help Susan and her family to be reunited?
