Goodwill Heart Family Care Center

In the Beginning...

Several years ago, after a year of intense tribal violence left many children without parents, a Kenyan pastor began taking in orphaned or displaced children from his village. When we met, He had taken in 22 children! Realizing that 22 children in one tiny house was not ideal, Pastor Joseph wanted to build a children's home.  It was at this point that Shepherd's heart got involved.  We hoped to help Pastor Joseph and his family think of other options that might work better for the kids and their families. As a result of many meetings, Pastor Joseph began looking for relatives of the children in order to reunite the families.

It was a difficult but beautiful process.  Many of the children had relatives who were very excited to know where they were and appreciative of all that had been done to support the kids after the death of their parents.  As of 2018, most of the children were reunited with siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents!  The others are in foster care with a local church.  Pastor Joseph and his wife visit the families multiple times each month and provide them with counseling, food, sanitary supplies, etc.

Many of the families could not afford to support the additional child so Shepherd's Heart  began a child sponsorship program to provide for their food, medical care and school expenses.  Sponsoring a child will allow the child to remain in the care of their family members and will benefit the families with additional food and support.

Future Plans....

One family at a time...We have begun to evaluate each family and decided what can be done to increase their quality of life.  We hope to invest in clean water supplies , job training and income generating projects to help these families thrive.

Your sponsorship will help keep these children off the streets, out of institutions and change the lives of their extended families.  May God bless you!

Poultry Programs provide jobs and a protein source for underdeveloped communities!  We are partnering with a village pastor and his church to bring an egg project to a rural area in Western Kenya. This program will be a training program to empower local youth to begin similar projects in their areas as well as provide income for the local pastors family.   Our goal is to build one chicken house that will house 500 laying hens.  Hopefully someday we can expand the project, but for now this will be a good start and allow the local pastor to learn the trade and teach it to others.  In addition to the cost to consrtuct the hen house, the cost for one hen and enough feed to grown the hen to maturity is $8 each. At 5 months, the hens begin laying eggs and can be fed with the proceeds from egg sales.  Update: The chicken house has been built and the hens are all moved in.  They hens have just began to lay so within the next few months they should be reaching peak production and providing a good income for the family.

Project Restoration

The purpose for this campaign is to build a home for a family that recently lost theirs due to a flood. Florence is the mother of 4 children and has been fostering her nephew. Her husband left her to raise them on her own and she has encountered struggle after struggle over the years. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and lost vision in one of her eyes, she is currently sick with malaria (because she doesn't have the mosquito nets she needs to be protected from this sickness), and her house was just destroyed in a flood. Florence and her children are currently drinking water and bathing in the river which is resulting in even more sickness. This family is in a season of having everything taken from them and they are extremely disheartened. We are asking that you partner with what the Lord desires to do for this family: to bring them out of the season of mourning and loss and bring them into a season filled with restoration and life.  Our vision is to rebuild her home on her own land where she then can grow her own food and support her family. We are also planning on providing a rain barrel which will catch the rain and provide clean water for them to drink and bathe. We fully believe that it would be extremely impactful for this family to have a new home and a fresh start at being able to live a more comfortable and healthy life. Florence is devastated but doesn't have any options so our dream is to get her back on her feet and provide the resources she needs to live a full and fruitful life.

Building Project for newly widowed pastor's wife

On December 5th , 2022 we lost a beloved partner and friend in a tragic car accident. Pastor Joseph Gideon Kerongo was struck by a speeding commercial vehicle while on his way to deliver food to the families in his care. He was the founder of the Goodwill Heart Community, married to Jacinta with 5 children. His humility and love of children is what drew us to him upon our first meeting. Pastor Joseph loved God, loved his family, and he loved those no one else took notice of. Evidence of his faithful sharing of the gospel and discipleship can be seen in the smooth running of his village church after his passing. He was gifted at raising up leaders in the church and encouraging those in desperate situations. One of our staff followed him to the homes he visited for an entire week and the situations he dealt with on a daily basis were astounding. A few examples were: visiting the home of a witchdoctor to pray for him to receive Christ and put away the practices of darkness, counseling several families devastated by alcohol abuse and left with no furniture or food in their home, finding a young lady tied to her bed because she would run off if she were loosed. Pastor Joseph faced all of these issues and more on a weekly basis while providing for his family by cutting trees for others.  We were able to visit his family a few weeks ago and with the help friends from the U.S. in the area, we made a plan for continuing the work of God through Pastor Joseph’s wife and adult son. We have also began training his son to raise hens to provide an income for his mother and sisters. Pastor Joseph had begun making his own bricks to build a better home for his family. We would love to help his family and honor his service to God by finishing the home he began. All proceeds from this campaign will go directly to construction costs for finishing the pastor's family home.  Would you consider being a part of finishing what was started for the glory of God?
